Thrasos 3D - Being Open to New Possibilities
Hi everyone! Today I want to share some exciting news about our startup, Thrasos 3D. This is a project we are developing with our team, aimed at solving one of the pressing environmental issues — the problem of sargassum seaweed.
You’ve probably heard about how sargassum is overtaking coastlines, especially in the Caribbean region. Instead of just fighting this nuisance, we decided to turn it into an opportunity. Using 3D printing technology, we process the collected seaweed and create artificial reefs. This not only helps restore coral ecosystems but also protects shorelines from erosion.
Recently, we started working with the municipality of Solidaridad in Playa del Carmen. This partnership allows us to bring our technology to life right where the problem exists — along the Riviera Maya coastline. We use biomimetic designs that disperse up to 50% of wave energy, creating a natural barrier against erosion. Plus, our material helps corals adapt and survive even under challenging conditions.
⚡️ Hot News About Us
I’m excited to share that several Mexican news channels have covered our recent partnerships! Here are some of the articles:
- Seeking collaboration with Thrasos 3D to regenerate corals using sargassum in Playa del Carmen (Díaz, 2025)
- Corals to be regenerated using sargassum (García, 2025)
- Riviera Maya: innovative transformation of sargassum into reefs (R., 2025)
- Solidaridad converts sargassum into reefs using 3D printing (Chable, 2025)
- Solidaridad transforms sargassum into hope: creating artificial reefs with 3D technology (Ahora, 2025)
- Sargassum to be converted into artificial reefs in Riviera Maya (Gamboa, 2025)
- Innovative transformation of sargassum into reefs (Sureste, 2025)
- Company in Playa del Carmen claims to turn sargassum into artificial reefs (Money, 2025)
- Company in Playa del Carmen processes sargassum to create artificial reefs (Nómada, 2025)
- Solidaridad converts sargassum into reefs using 3D printing (Cantón, 2025)
What we are most proud of is the eco-friendliness of the entire process. Instead of simply disposing of sargassum, we turn it into something genuinely useful. It’s an example of how a problem can be transformed into a solution.
We are also collaborating with other amazing teams, such as the Coral Reef Restoration Program in Cozumel and Seaworthy Collective, Miami. Together, we’re accelerating the commercialization of our idea and making the technology more accessible.
I absolutely love seeing how our project is helping not only nature but also local communities. Artificial reefs are not just about coastal protection — they’re also an opportunity to attract more tourists, improve biodiversity, and create new jobs.
